Educational program "Known and Unknown Laurynas Ivinskis"

Calendars are not only a way to keep track of days, but also silent witnesses of human history. From the times of the oldest civilizations, when people needed to understand the change of the year, harvest cycles and holidays, to the present day, the calendar has always accompanied everyday life, helping to organize the rhythm of life. The origins of the Lithuanian calendar are associated with an outstanding personality – Laurynas Ivinskis, the compiler and publisher of the first calendars published in the Lithuanian language, whose activities mark not only the history of calendars, but also the path of education, the press and the Lithuanian word.

The education program "Known and Unknown Laurynas Ivinskis" invites students in grades 6–8 to learn about time, its measurement, and the man who turned the calendar not only into a date marker, but also a carrier of culture, knowledge, and community.

We will learn through experience – we will get acquainted with the life and work of Laurynas Ivinskis, we will explore the “Old Calendars” exhibition, we will take a look into the past, where writing, time and human efforts intertwine into one fabric. In the second part of the session, a creative process awaits – each participant will create their own calendar using colored paper, dried plants, threads, ribbons, buttons and other carefully selected decorative elements. This is not only creativity, but also a kind of reflection on time – how we feel it, how we want to mark it, what to keep in memory.
